How to Get Over an Ex — for Good

Unrequited love, a bad break up or a cheating girlfriend— situations like these make it hard for any guy to move on. According to a recent study by Loveawake dating site people who have gone through bad breakups get over the pain in three months. Instead of seeing that next girl as a prospect, you only see her as a 24-hour help hotline that’s ready for all your moping and whining about your failed relationship.

Well, here’s the truth: You’re ruining your chance on a possible (better) relationship. So before you end up repelling every woman you meet, we’re here to save you. Below are five steps you can take if you ever want to make it out of that past relationship alive.

Sleep with someone else

Yes I am being absolutely aggressive here when I tell you that one of the best tried-and-tested ways to get over your ex is to sleep with a new woman. If you think you’re being too hasty, don’t.

Men and women cope with break-ups differently and between a cheesy movie complete with a bucket of ice cream or a night out with friends with that hot chick by the bar, we’re inching towards the one that will help us forget.

Realize that you’re free

Now that you truly are single, remind yourself of the freedoms you have once again. Think of it this way, you are now released from the shackles of being aware of the time, constant nagging, and jealousy. It’s the weekend. You can sure as hell stay out for as long as you like. If you’re feeling spontaneous or want to go over board then by all means hop a plane to Vegas. Realize that you’re free and after a very long time, you finally have the time for yourself to do whatever it is that you want.

“Clear history”

By this I mean, clearing out all the things she left in your apartment (yes, even that thong you always hid under your bed when she was away), hiding or deleting her from your social media as well as removing her number from your phone.
Listen to your bros when they tell you that in order to forget about her, you need to leave every piece of her behind. You’d be surprised at how easier things get once you’ve done this, which we consider a pretty challenging step.

Focus on the bad memories

We’ve all been there: You’re out for a run and all of a sudden you remember the way she pouts her mouth when she wants something or how fantastic she looked in bed. No.

Snap the f*ck out of it. The reason you two broke up is that there was more bad than good so at this point, help yourself by remembering the bad memories and the exact reasons why it ended.

Spend time with your friends

Remember how many afternoon barbecue sessions you missed because you had to go to her parents house during the weekend? Well now, my dear free man, you have all the time in the world and we highly suggest you spend it with your buddies. These are the people that will help get you through this nasty heartbreak. So forget about sulking. Prep the grill, grab a few cases of beer and round up the guys for a swell one.

I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. Heck, it’s going to be unbelievably hard but hopefully, these five tips will get you through one baby step at a time.
