I don’t want to tell you how to live your life. Actually, I do. To be clear, I’d rather teach you how to make the life that you’re already living, better. You should live it however you’d like, but it should at least be worthwhile.
For the quickest ten minutes known to man I thought about being a life coach. I love giving advice. Any opportunity to give my unsolicited opinion, I’m on it. I realized, however, that a life coach doesn’t just give advice; they also have to deal with clients that don’t take it.
So with everything I’ve learned about dating, I’d like to share with you life advice that will no doubt improve your love life.
Too many singles are waiting to meet someone who will make their crappy lives better. That might happen, but there’s no telling if you’re improved crappy life or shitty existence will make your potential date happy. Then they’ll leave you and you’ll be back to misery.
I don’t want that for you.
Right now, this second, as you read these words, you should be considering making your life the best it can be. On your own!
I want you to meet the right person, find love and improve your life without fluff.
The general suggestions for life improvement are rarely sufficient. So without the generic, hand holding, kumbaya self-empowerment instructions that are so often offered, here are 4 practices that will, without a doubt, make your life better than it is today.
Say ‘Thank You’ everyday
‘If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough’ ~ Meister Eckhart
There are really amazing things happening in your life everyday but you’re too caught up with what’s missing to notice. One thank you is good but the more the merrier. If you can wake up each morning with a long list of good things to be grateful for and say thank you aloud, you’re outlook on life will improve.
People who feel grateful don’t worry about the little inconveniences of life. In the big picture of blessings you’ve made out like a bandit.
How can even the most challenged individual maintain a positive outlook when life has seemed like one misfortune after another? By being grateful for what they have. You should do the same. And don’t worry about who you’re thanking. It could be your mama. But say aloud, to the universe and beyond, thank you.
What do you have in life that you appreciate? Thank the world for it.
Give Up Control
Many people believe that they’re in complete control of their lives. Let’s assume that you are. How’s it going? How are you doing being at the helm? Sometimes we’re not good at navigating ourselves from point A to point B in all aspects of life. Just because you’ve mastered your way around the career world doesn’t make your love life easy terrain to conquer.
Stop trying to control every thing and everyone.
Sometimes you just have to sit back and admit that you don’t have the answers. You have to admit that you don’t know what’s going to happen or what the right thing to do is.
We can easily become control freaks by being definitive about decisions we should be flexible on. You should go with the flow. If you don’t know how, try yoga. If you are completely lost at how to give up the reigns in your life, just say yes. To what you ask? Everything.
Be wrong, Authentically
I’m constantly reminding myself that no one is perfect. If we all know this and accept this why do we find it so hard to be wrong? Why do we put so much pressure on ourselves to always have the answers, and know the perfect solution to everything?
When you’re wrong, say so. When you’re wrong, be sorry. When you’re wrong embrace your humanity and allow yourself to be wrong. It’s okay.
You thought you’d be married by now, you were wrong. So what.
Give Value to Your Days
What do you live for? What excites you? What is your passion? Too often we know what we’re energized about but we just don’t do it. If you love to write, join a group for writing, start a blog or read lots of books everyday about writing.
Live what you love, that’s not a new concept but I’m reminding you how important it is to give your life meaning and to give your passions life.
Many people wake up each day and go to jobs that they hate, yuck right? How can you enjoy life when 40 hours of your week are wasted away at your j-o-b?
Find a passion and give a little time to it everyday
I have a family that I love, a blog and music. I love music! If I have five minutes of my day to dutty wine, I feel like I’ve lived. What matters to you, not just in concept but also through action? Give yourself the opportunity to make your life a little more amazing by knowing what truly matters to you and cultivating it.
The goal is to do.
Give life to what you think about everyday while you’re waiting for grueling workdays to end. Where does your mind go when you let your thoughts drift? Begin to live those thoughts with action. Start small, but take that step.
Take a moment each day to ask yourself:
- What am I thankful for?
- What can I release control of?
- What was I wrong about today?
- What am I passionate about?
If you don’t feel a little bit better about the person you are once you’ve answered these questions, I would check my pulse. I’m just saying. What have you changed in your life that has made it a little better?
